CUPS / CAFÉ is an evangelical, Christian non-profit organization. Its founders believe that the Westminster Confession of Faith and Heidelberg Catechism articulates the truths of Holy Scripture. CUPS / CAFÉ also believes the Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed are sound statements of our Christian faith. From these important documents, we’ve compiled a simple statement of faith. Those desiring to serve in any volunteer or missionary staff capacity must believe what we believe.
CUPS / CAFE is not an exclusive ministry. We are not saying that you are not welcome at the cafe if you do not believe what we believe. You are welcome at the cafe. We want you to stop by. There are also many other ways to serve and help at the cafe apart from being a volunteer behind the counter or a missionary on staff, and we would love to discuss those areas of service with you. Please contact us so we can sit together, over a cup of hot tea, to talk about your life and faith journey.
WE BELIEVE:
- The Holy Scriptures to be the divinely inspired Word of God, infallibly true as originally given, and our divinely authorized rule of faith and practice.
- In one God over all, the same yesterday, today and forever; the Creator of all things, and in whom all creation belongs, consists and is accountable to.
- This one God is eternally existent in three persons, united and inseparable, of one substance and eternal: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
- In one Savior, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, who is the Supreme head of the Church, which He redeemed unto God by His own blood.
- In the deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection from the dead, in His ascension to the right hand of God the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
- That our justification before God is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
- In the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a life of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
- In the resurrection of the body, the judgment of all mankind, the everlasting punishment of those who will not believe in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
APOSTLES CREED: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Catholic (Universal) Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the Life everlasting. Amen.
NICENE CREED: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son]. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. AMEN.
